Complete Details on Our Quartzsite Appearance – 1/21 & 1/22, 2017

Come meet up with us during the 2017 Quartzsite, AZ RV Show! We’ll be at Quartzsite Town Park on Jan 21 & 22, 2017 from 10 AM – 4 PM. We’ll be joined by Tyler of Tough Top Awnings, who will be installing slide toppers. Come say hello!

Quartzsite Town Park is on Plymouth Rd. at the corner of E. Quail Trail St.
Here are the exact GPS coordinates: 33.677422, -114.208404

This year, Tyler will again be installing slide toppers during the entire show. The first two days, 1/21/17 & 1/22/17, he’ll be with us at Town Park. For the rest of the show (through 1/29/17) he’ll be available to come to your location in Quartzsite to install your slide toppers on site. If you’ve watched our DIY videos, but have decided that you’d rather not do it yourself, here’s your chance to have it done for you by one of the foremost professionals in the business.

From now through the end of the Quartzsite RV show (1/29/2017), Tough Top Awnings will be offering a Quartzsite/Holiday Double Discount For RVgeeks Viewers. Use the Discount Code “RVGEEKS10” to get a 10% discount on your entire order at

You can also use the 10% code for awning and accessory purchases, and for phone orders, too! The discount applies to ALL orders placed from today through the end of the show (1/29/2017), whether you’re having slide toppers installed at the show or not.

Of course our usual 5% discount code “RVGEEKSROCK” will be back in effect immediately after the Quartzsite show.

Over the years, Tyler has replaced more slide toppers and awnings than he could possibly count, and he can make your worn out toppers like new in no time. If you’d like to order your fabric in advance, contact him through the Tough Top Awnings website to place your order and let him know you’ll be coming to Quartzsite for installation. He’ll bring your slide toppers to the 2017 RV show (January 21-29, 2017) and install them for you at a reasonable cost.

If you’re not able to make it to the show this year, you can always have Tyler do your installation at their new facility right outside Vancouver, WA (just north of Portland, OR) on your way up or down I-5. And back at the shop, he can do awning replacements, too. ;-)

Replacing awning & slide topper fabric is our favorite DIY RV project. It’s surprisingly manageable, saves $$, and you end up with better results.

Thank you for the invitation but unfortunately we won't have our trailer until the end of the month of this January 2017. In the meantime, best of the new year to you and hope to meet you sometime in the future. I have enjoyed all of your videos and have learned so much so thank you again for taking all of the time and expanding the effort to share your knowledge. I do have a question about understanding GVWR ratings as they relate to passengers in the vehicle, stuff in the truck bed, etc. and whether that applies to the GVW are of the trailer. I'm not sure the best way to contact you guts for that info. I'm going to do some more searches on YouTube as I'm sure you must've covered this subject in some of your videos but if you have a link that you could email to that would be awesome!

Hi Tony! Sorry we'll miss you in Quartzsite, but congratulations on your upcoming RV purchase! And thanks so much for the nice comment.

The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum operating weight of a vehicle as specified by the manufacturer including the vehicle's chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers and cargo but excluding the weight of any trailer. For a 5th wheel, that might include the weight of the RV pressing down into the truck bed, but we're not 100% sure about that, as we have no experience with 5th wheels.

The gross combined weight rating (GCWR) is the maximum allowable combined weight of a road vehicle, the passengers and cargo in the tow vehicle, plus the weight of the trailer and cargo in the trailer.

The GVWR is the maximum total your truck can weight with EVERYTHING in it. The GCWR adds in the trailer and everything in it.

For a motorhome, it's similar.... the GVWR is the max allowable weight of the RV when fully loaded with passengers, fuel water, gear, etc. The GCWR adds in the car we tow behind us and all its contents.

Our RV has a 10,000 lb trailer hitch, so the GCWR is exactly 10,000 lbs higher than the GVWR.

Hope this all makes sense, and answered your question!
