A camping chair is a pretty standard piece of gear for most campers. But there are camping chairs and then there are CAMPING CHAIRS!

Things to Consider When Shopping for a Rocking Camp Chair

If you’re an RVer who loves to rock when you’re relaxing and you’d consider buying a rocking chair made for camping, there are a few things you’ll want to look for when you’re shopping.

Lightweight/Compact/Easy to Store

For all RVers and campers, gear that is lightweight, compact, and easy to store is important.

Keeping the weight of things we carry down and finding a spot to store another piece of gear can be challenging. That’s why, whenever an RVer shops for something new, its weight, size, and packability are primary considerations.

When shopping for a rocker chair for camping, then, you’ll want to take a look at the weight of the chair and how it collapses for storage. (You’ll also want to figure out where in your rig you’ll store it.)

Portability

You’ll also want your rocking camp chair to be easy to transport.

Weight figures in here as well, of course, but some camping rocking chairs have features like backpack straps for easy transport.

Look for features that make your chair easier to carry.

Comfort

Comfort is a consideration with any lounge chair.

If you’re not comfortable sitting by fire pits, lakes, etc., there’s no point in owning that chair at all.

We’re categorizing them by weight support. So, we’ll start with the chairs that support the least amount of weight (minimum 250 pounds) and move to rocking camp chairs that support up to 350 and even 600 pounds.

Having said that, with something like a camping chair (and especially one that rocks), we take the stated weight limits with a grain of salt. In other words, we would always exceed our needs with gear like a camping chair.

• Notes: We’re placing this into the 250-pound capacity category, but the manufacturer’s stated weight capacity of this chair is 265 pounds.  In its upright position, this chair has dimensions of 47.25″ L x 26.5″ W x 40.25″. It can be used as a steady recliner or as a rocking chair. At 22 lbs, it’s also the heaviest in this group by a good margin.
