Get an RV With Bunk Beds & Bring the Whole Family Along!

One drawback of an RV is the fact that floor space is limited, making the entire living area small. This means that sleeping space is generally not plentiful, limiting the number of people who can camp with you. The easiest way to deal with this limitation is to buy an RV with bunk beds.

Bunk bed floorplans have become very popular, enabling families to travel more comfortably without having to transform a couch or dining table into and out of a bed every day.

Today we’re looking at RVs that have floor plans that increase sleeping areas with the use of bunk beds. So, whether you prefer a diesel pusher, a Class C motorhome, a 5th wheel, or a travel trailer, there’s an RV with bunk beds (often called a “bunkhouse RV”) out there for you.

Class A RVs With Bunk Beds

We’ll begin by taking a look at a couple of Class A motorhomes with bunk beds on different ends of the budget spectrum.

Being very satisfied Newmar owners ourselves, we’ll start with a look at the bunkhouse floorplan of the Newmar Canyon Star.

Newmar Canyon Star 3929

The 2022 Newmar Canyon Star

For 2020 and 2021, the Canyon Star was offered with either a gas engine or what’s called a “FRED” engine. “FRED” stands for FRont End Diesel.

As it turns out, the FRED engine was so popular that the Canyon Star is now offered only with the FRED engine.

More to the point of this post, the Newmar Canyon Star 3929 floor plan offers twin-sized bunk beds in the rear.

There’s a door between the master bedroom suite and the bunkhouse, giving parents and kids their own separate spaces. But there’s more!

Not only are the sleeping spaces separate, but the bunkhouse has its own storage areas as well as a half bath.

So, with the Newmar Canyon Star 3929, the parents have their own area with sleeping space (with a king-sized bed), storage, and a full bathroom, and the kids have their own area with two twin-sized bunk beds (30″ x 76″), a half bath, and plenty of separate storage.

The Canyon Star is 39.11 feet long and has a Cummins 6.7L I6 Turbo Diesel and is built on the Freightliner MC FRED.

Its GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) is 30,000 pounds and it has a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. (Have a look at our post entitled “What Is Dry Weight on a Camper?” for more information about weight ratings.)

The Canyon Star 3929 can sleep up to 7 people.

Holding tank capacities are as follows:

  • Fuel: 80 gallons
  • Fresh water: 75 gallons
  • Grey water: 60 gallons
  • Black water: 92 gallons

Typical of Newmar RVs, the Canyon Star is a luxury motorhome with a price tag to match at around $265,875.

Coachmen Mirada 35ES

A more affordable Class A motorhome with bunk beds is the Coachmen Mirada 35ES.

In addition to the bunk beds (which can also be transformed into an office or wardrobe), this motorhome has a 47″ x 81″ drop-down overhead bunk in the front. A sofa bed and dinette can also be turned into additional sleeping spaces, and the master bedroom in the rear of the rig offers a king-sized bed.

There’s a full bath in the rear and a mid-coach half bath, offering plenty of bathroom accommodations for large families.

The Coachmen Mirada 35ES is 36’10” long and has a GVWR of 20,000 pounds.

Holding tank capacities are as follows:

  • Fuel: 80 gallons
  • Fresh water: 70 gallons
  • Grey water: 90 gallons
  • Black water: 90 gallons

You’ll find the 2022 Mirada for sale at a price of around $189,829.

Class C RVs With Bunk Beds

Next, we’ll introduce a couple of Class C RVs with bunk beds.

You’ll notice that we’re skipping right over the Class B category of RVs. That’s because while Class Bs may offer one set of twin beds, you’ll rarely if ever find a Class B with bunk beds unless the rig is a custom-made van build.

You may certainly find a Class B RV with a pop-top that offers additional sleeping quarters above the roof level (like the Winnebago EKKO Pop Top), but those aren’t bunk beds and thus aren’t the topic of today’s post.

Let’s take a look at a couple of Class C RVs with bunk beds.

2023 Entegra Odyssey 31F

The 2023 Entegra Odyssey 31F is a Class C RV with bunk beds

The 2023 Entegra Odyssey 31F (Photo credit: Entegra Coach)

The Entegra Odyssey 31F is a Class C RV with bunk beds that’s capable of sleeping a whopping 10 people.

The rig is 32’6″ long and is built on the new Ford E-450 chassis with V8 engine. It has a GVWR of 14,500 pounds.

Sleeping quarters are so expandable due to a combination of cab-over bunk (with a skylight with push-button power shade!), a transformable dinette and jackknife sofa, a rear queen-sized bed… PLUS bunk beds (28″ x 72″).

The 2023 Entegra Odyssey 31F floor plan shows the bunk beds in this RV

While the dinette and jackknife sofas do add sleeping space to this Class C RV, we’d note that while the rig may technically sleep 10, this includes these two beds sleeping two people each. These spaces would probably not be comfortable for two, other than perhaps small, lightweight children.

Still, the Entegra Odyssey 31F is capable of carrying and sleeping a large family. It’s well laid out with adequate storage. We’ll note, however, that with only one bathroom, the rig at full sleeping capacity could be a tad overwhelming (plan to stay at campgrounds with good shower facilities, LOL!).

Holding tank capacities:

  • Fuel: 55 gallons
  • Fresh water: 47 gallons
  • Grey water: 41 gallons
  • Black water: 31 gallons

You can learn more about the Entegra Odyssey here. The 2023 Entegra Odyssey 31F has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $171,285.

2022 Jayco Redhawk 31F

With a layout very similar to that of the Entegra Odyssey 31F (not surprising, since Jayco is Entegra’s parent company!), the 2022 Jayco Redhawk 31F is noted to sleep up to 7 people.

Sleeping spaces include a cab-over bunk, sofa, dinette, queen bed in the rear, and a set of bunk beds.

As with the Entegra, there’s a single bathroom which makes sense in a rig this size, but may be a hindrance for a larger family.

The Redhawk is 32’6″ long and has a GVWR of 14,500 pounds, identical to the Entegra.

Holding tank capacities are also the same at:

  • Fuel: 55 gallons
  • Fresh water: 47 gallons
  • Grey water: 41 gallons
  • Black water: 31 gallons

The Redhawk starts at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $139,793, and you can learn more about it here.

2023 Newmar Super Star 3729

The 2023 Newmar Super Star 3729

This one is technically a “Super C” RV, but we want to add Newmar’s Super Star 3729 to our list of Class C RVs with bunk beds because we’re so familiar with Newmar’s quality… and we’ve personally toured a Newmar Super C.

The Super Star 3729 is 37’11” long and is built on a Freightliner M2 106 chassis with a 360-horsepower Cummins diesel engine.

The 3729 is a new floor plan for 2023. It’s a bunk model with three slideouts. The bunkhouse has pocket doors to close it off from the front and back.

The RV also has a retracting queen bed (to give more floorspace when not in use to sleep in) in the rear master bedroom, a convertible dinette, and a 74″ sofa.

Holding tank capacities on the Super Star 3729 are:

  • Fuel: 100 gallons
  • Fresh water: 150 gallons
  • Gray water: 60 gallons
  • Black water: 40 gallons

Newmar motorhomes have a reputation for quality and luxurious appointments throughout their RVs. Luxury comes at a cost, though. The starting price of Newmar’s Super Star lineup? $474,353

5th Wheels With Bunk Beds

For those of you who tow your RV, there are many options of rigs with bunk beds. In fact, 5th wheels and travel trailers are quite popular with RVers who travel with larger families.

Let’s take a look at a couple of 5th wheels with bunk houses.

Keystone Montana High Country 335BH

The Keystone Montana High Country 335BH

The Montana High Country 335BH is a 5th wheel RV with an awesome bunkhouse. The rig itself is 36’8″  long and has a GVWR of 16,000 pounds.

It sleeps 8 people total, and is quite impressively appointed.

There are two bunks in a slide-out in the rear and a loft bunk above the rear bathroom with space for three additional people to sleep. So, this rig has a bunkhouse with sleeping space for FIVE.

The space also includes two entrances, a half-bath, and a wardrobe. The rear of this 5th wheel, then, is dedicated to the kids (or guests).

In the front of the 5th wheel, there’s a sizeable master bedroom with a king-sized standard (or optional queen-sized) bed and a full bath.

Holding tank capacities in the Keystone Montana are:

  • Fresh water: 66 gallons
  • Gray water: 88 gallons
  • Black water: 88 gallons

You’ll pay around $94,000 for this model of the Keystone Montana and you can learn more about it here.

Keystone has also introduced a new floorplan (the 351BH) with a bunkhouse that has two stacked queen-sized bunk beds. This model is about 39′ long, also sleeps 8, and has a starting MSRP of $99,699.

Forest River Arctic Wolf 287BH

The Arctic Wolf 287BH is Forest River’s most popular multi-person sleeper.

The bunkhouse of this 5th wheel has double bunks that are oversized at 54″W x 74″L. They can accommodate children, teens, or adults, making this 5th wheel a great way to travel with family or friends.

The bunkhouse also has plenty of storage both under the beds and in the wardrobe.

Many parts of this popular 5th wheel are oversized including the u-shaped dinette and the slide rooms which are 6’4″ tall.  There’s also a queen-sized bed (60″ x 80″).

Travel Trailers With Bunk Beds

And finally, let’s take a look at a couple of examples of travel trailers with bunk beds for travelers requiring lots of sleeping space.

Coachmen Freedom Express Select 31SE

Several of the Coachmen travel trailers have bunkhouses but this one is among the most popular thanks to its rear bedroom with four bunks.

The bunks on the street side of the rig are in a slide-out, offering additional space when the slides are out. There’s another set of bunks on the curb side (and under it lies the area that holds the outdoor kitchen).

There’s a queen-sized bed in the master bedroom with wardrobes on either side. The wardrobes have storage cabinets above, for plenty of storage space.

The U-shaped dinette converts to an additional 88″ bed.

The only potential drawback to this bunkhouse travel trailer is the limitation of a single bathroom. It’s pretty spacious, though, and has two entrances. There’s also access to hot and cold water outside the rig as well as an outdoor shower.

The 31SE is 37’6″ long with a GVWR of 9,500 pounds.

Holding tank capacities are:

  • Fresh water: 49 gallons
  • Gray water: 33 gallons
  • Black water: 33 gallons

The Coachmen Freedom Express Select 31SE has a factory list price of $61,104.

Crossroads Sunset Trail SS331BH

This 37′ 6″ bunkhouse travel trailer has a different setup in that it has a large bunk on the passenger’s side (over the entertainment center of one bedroom).  Across the hall, the jackknife sofa flips up into another bunk in the rear slide-out.

There’s a half bath in this area as well, and a separate exit.

In addition to the jackknife sofa, there’s a tri-fold sofa for two as well as an extra large dinette booth that converts to a sleeping area.

And finally, the master bedroom and full bathroom (with a glass-enclosed shower and a skylight) span the width of the travel trailer. Here you’ll find a king-sized bed with wardrobes and overhead storage cabinets on either side.

This unit even has a fireplace.

Tank capacities are:

  • Fresh water: 45 gallons
  • Gray water: 60 gallons
  • Black water: 60 gallons

The Crossroads Sunset Trail SS331BH travel trailer starts at around $53,000.

You can learn more about them here.

As you can see, there are many options with bunk beds on the market today in almost every class of RV. We hope this rundown of several popular bunkhouse units gives you a place to start dreaming and planning for your family’s travel adventures.
