Leveling Travel Trailers & 5th Wheels – First Time, Every Time

Leveling Travel Trailers & 5th Wheels – First Time, Every Time

Last year we discovered a whole new world of high-tech RV leveling – the LevelMatePRO. Since it was originally designed for towables, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it’s got even more features for travel trailers and 5th wheels than it does for motorhomes!

Our original video showed how to install the LevelMate, set up the app on a smartphone or tablet, and level our motorhome using our hydraulic jacks. In a follow-up video, we connected with our friends Brian & Melissa of RVwithTito to show how the unit is even more valuable for motorhomes without built-in jacks.

Today, we’re joined by Tyler from Tough Top Awnings, who connected with us recently to video an awning replacement. While we’re with him, Tyler is using his travel trailer to demonstrate every feature of the LevelMatePRO, some of which are only designed for towables – both fifth wheels and travel trailers.

We’re not going to give away any spoilers on this one, but suffice it to say that if you’ve seen our first two LevelMatePRO videos, and you own a towable RV, you’ll be really pleased to see what it can do for you. Besides its awesome leveling abilities, it will improve your campsite breakdown experience, too.

After a great camping trip, how many times have you gone to hook up your travel trailer or fifth wheel to your tow vehicle and had to get in and out of the driver’s seat over and over again to get the trailer height to match the hitch height? Oops… we said no spoilers… you’ll have to watch the video! ;-)

Thanks to Tyler from Tough Top Awnings for the special appearance. Since his LevelMate was installed and set up immediately before we shot the video, his very first experience with it was on camera. It was so much fun to share a cool piece of tech with a friend, and see his reaction to what a difference it makes. :)

I just purchased the Gen 2. It works very well. I contacted their customer support about switching off the unit when in storage and it will keep your level settings. I was worried that it may not keep them. Great product and thanks for posting video about them.

Hi Casey! Thanks for posting that clarification about the LevelMatePRO keeping your level settings with the unit turned off. We should have made that more clear in the video, since it does! Glad you're enjoying your LevelMatePRO as much as we are... we LOVE it!

Hi guys, I too purchased the LevelMatePro after watching your original video and I have a set of Anderson levelers for my 5th wheel. The combo works GREAT! I do have to say I've had connectivity / dead battery issues the past year and I think this "Newer" version will correct any of the problems the original has. I just wish I could upgrade /exchange my current one for the "Newer" version......????¿¿¿???

Tom I was on their website and it seems they are allowing you to upgrade to Gen 2 for $ 95.00. I hope this helps.

Hi Tom! Great to hear that your LevelMatePRO and Anderson levelers combine to make a great set-up. We were familiar with the Andersons, but had never seen them in action until we shot this video. We don't know for certain, but we think that Chuck at LogicBlue may be aware that some people with the Generation 1 unit may be interested in the Gen2 model now that it's out, and he might have some kind of discount for repeat buyers. We suggest that you reach out to him, because he's amazingly proactive and eager to help customers whenever he can. You can reach him by e-mail at support@command-electronics.com or you can use the contact form on the LevelMatePRO website: https://logicbluetech.com if you prefer. If there is indeed any special available for Gen1 buyers, we don't know that he'd do an exchange, but maybe a discount, allowing you to step up to the latest model and then gift your old one to a fellow RVing friend? Good luck, and please be sure to let us know how you make out and if there's any deal to be had!

Guys, don't take this wrong. Your information has always been top notch. Since your postings on cooking corn in the microwave oven and storing celery I have been a believer and have watch all your videos. So when you showed the TravelMatePro last year I purchased one and recommended your video to fellow RVer's. Many of them also bought a until Amazon ran out.

So fast forward to last Spring, 2017, our TravelMatePro would not sync and retain its calibration. I called the support number and the owner answered while on his way to dinner with his wife. Chuck was very helpful and felt we needed to replace my unit. He sent a replacement via priority mail which installed without problem. All was good at this point and Chuck's customer focus was outstanding.

In using the new unit in our 40' Tiffin I found it unsettling. Yes, I chose that word on purpose. Let me explain. My need for this device was not to find the level part of my camping space, rather it was to obtain a calibrated reference point (benchmark) that matched my wife's inner ear sense of level so that I could "level" our rig consistently.

Unfortunately I found it would not, or could not provide a constant indicator or measures even when we were parked with jacks down. The four corner measurements would vacillate in a random manner +/- some half inch or more. Remember I said +/-, so the numeric swing being displayed for each of the four corners is double that. Yet, we are parked, jacks down, rig level, no wind, no earthquakes...

Now to be honest, I never followed up with Chuck after that because I felt the issue was me, or rather how I was using the device. And as he was so supportive on the issues with the first unit. So, for me, I am back to our old ways of yelling back and forth until my leveling-mate is happy.

Hi Mike! Thanks for your note, and for all the info. Sorry to hear you're having a problem. We suggest that you should really reach out to Chuck, because he is (as you've seen) amazingly proactive and eager to help customers whenever he can. You probably already have the e-mail address, but if not, it's support@command-electronics.com or you can use the contact form on the LevelMatePRO website: https://logicbluetech.com if you prefer. Good luck, and please be sure to let us know how you make out!

I pull 5th wheel with gooseneck, the leveling is a lot harder.

Looks awesome, do you have a video showing how to use it for leveling a 5th wheel?

TheRVgeeks

Hi Yvonne! We don't have a separate video for showing its use on a fifth wheel, but it's effectively identical to the travel trailer. You measure the distance from the center of the rearmost wheel to your front jack legs (NOT the kingpin)... and you can save your hitch position so you'll know how to raise/lower the kingpin down for reconnecting when leaving. It works just as well for fifth wheels as for travel trailers!
