Vino anyone? Today we’ve got a fun post in store for you. We’re taking a look at the wine tumbler!
Yep, we said “wine” and “tumbler” in the same phrase…and we meant what we said.
Hear us out:
RVers often think twice before bringing wine glasses onboard their rigs, and with good reason! Wine glasses tend to break easily and so don’t mix particularly well with the over-the-road RV lifestyle.
They’re also not entirely compatible with camping life in general. Long-stem wine glasses by the fire? Meh.
But wine tumblers are especially well suited to traveling and camping, and they’ve got some great features not found in a traditional wine glass.
So, set your sights on your favorite flavorful, aromatic fermented grape juice, ’cause we’ve got lots of great options to add to your RV housewares!
What’s a Wine Tumbler?
A wine tumbler is a particular type of cup for carrying wine (or any beverage, actually) that’s usually (but not always) stemless, with a wide, non-slip base that sits pretty securely on the surface where it’s placed.
A wine tumbler is often made of a material such as food-grade stainless steel, with features like splash-proof lids that slide shut to keep bugs, sand, etc. out.
They sometimes have double-wall vacuum insulation to keep cold drinks cold and the tumbler itself condensation-free. In fact, many are coated so you don’t even have to worry about RV rattles.
An insulated wine tumbler typically comes in capacities from 8 oz to 16 oz and is a great RVing or camping companion, even if you don’t drink wine!
Features of the Best Wine Tumblers
There are a number of features you’ll want to find in a wine tumbler when researching prior to buying. Let’s take a look at the most important features of a good wine tumbler for RVers and campers.
BPA-Free
If there’s plastic involved in your wine tumbler, you’ll want to be sure it’s BPA-free and food-grade so that you can use it repeatedly and worry-free.
Food-Grade (or Kitchen-Grade) Stainless Steel
A stainless steel wine tumbler should use food-grade or kitchen-grade stainless steel.
Most quality wine tumblers will include food-grade materials, which is important for holding anything that you’ll consume.
Let’s talk for a second about “food-grade” vs “kitchen-grade”:
Some of the tumblers on our list are constructed from “kitchen-grade” as opposed to “food-grade” stainless steel. However, the “kitchen-grade” stainless used is 18/8 which is quite similar to food-grade 304 stainless but apparently has somewhat less resistance to salt.
For your reference, Type 304 is the most common type of food-grade steel. 304-grade stainless is sometimes coded as 18/8 or 18/10 stainless steel, referring to the amount of chromium and nickel in the product.
For more specific information, see the difference between 18/8 and 304 stainless steel.
Insulated
A good wine tumbler will be insulated to keep your beverage cold. Double-wall vacuum insulation will keep your drink cold while also keeping the exterior of the tumbler condensation-free.
This is a great feature for water bottles and tumblers that will hold cold beverages. Not only does it provide a more pleasant surface to hold, but it also prevents furniture staining from water/condensation that can otherwise occur.
Durability
As always, RVers and campers want strong, durable gear, and your wine tumbler is no exception.
We want our stuff to last, despite the rock ‘n roll of the road and the outdoor use.
Closeable Lid
Any type of beverage container that we’re going to take camping will benefit from a closeable lid. This helps to keep out bugs, sand from the beach, dirt at the campsite, etc., and also prevents splashing and spilling.
Price
Price is always a factor when we’re shopping, so as always, we’ll try to provide options suitable for most budgets.
9 of the Best Wine Tumblers for Spill-Free Fun
A wine tumbler (to be used for wine or any other favorite beverage) is actually a very useful piece of gear for your RV.
There are lots of great options out there, so without further ado, let’s take a look at 9 of the most popular wine tumblers on the market today!
YETI Rambler
While we hate to start with one of the most expensive options out there, it’s pretty hard to ignore the high-quality products from Yeti.
This 10 oz Yeti wine tumbler has over 5,000 excellent reviews on Amazon for good reason. Yeti makes superior-quality products (with price tags to match) that will last and last and last.
If durability is a feature you appreciate, Yeti’s double wall vacuum-insulated tumbler made with kitchen-grade stainless steel is a great option.
Only Yeti products feature the MagSlider Lid which uses magnets to lock the top of your tumbler. (Note that a MagSlider Lid is not leakproof! Its intent is to keep heat or cold from escaping and to close off the top of the tumbler to prevent bugs, sand, dirt, and other debris from getting in.)
The Yeti Rambler is BPA-free, dishwasher-safe, and is made with kitchen-grade (18/8) stainless steel. It has a “no sweat” outer shell and colored tumblers are coated with Duracoat so they won’t fade, crack, or peel.
Romantic 12 oz Stemless 4-Pack
For the price of a single Yeti tumbler, you can grab a set of four wine tumblers from Romantic. There are a couple of caveats, however.
These tumblers do have double-wall vacuum insulation and are also made from food-grade stainless steel.
The lids, however, appear to be made of a plastic material and we didn’t see anywhere in the documentation that the lids are BPA-free. (That doesn’t mean they’re not, but you’d think if they were, that fact would be prominently displayed somewhere.)
The other caveat also involves the lid. It doesn’t close completely. So, there’s an opening for drinking directly or for using the included straw, and that area of the lid remains open all the time. This is important to note, especially if you’d like to use the tumbler (for a non-alcoholic beverage!) while driving.
If neither of those caveats is of concern to you, these are four popular, highly-rated wine tumblers for around 25 bucks.
Note that these tumblers are NOT dishwasher-safe and should be hand-washed only. They’re also not microwave-safe, either (but who microwaves their wine, anyway?).
Each tumbler comes with a cleaning brush and straw.

Dometic 10 oz Insulated Wine Tumbler
Another very high-quality insulated wine tumbler is Dometic’s 10 oz version.
This is a wine tumbler with double-wall vacuum-sealed insulation that succeeds in keeping beverages cold or warm.
These have a BPA-free plastic lid with a press-fit function that makes the tumbler splash-free (but not leak-free). It has a removable gasket for easier cleaning.
Dometic describes the type of stainless steel used in this product as “robust stainless steel”. We don’t find mention in the documentation of the actual type of stainless steel used, however.
Dometic’s tumblers come in a variety of colors.
We should note here that while we don’t own the Dometic tumblers, we do have their water bottle which is constructed very similarly to the wine tumblers. We absolutely love our Dometic water bottle. It’s leak-proof, dishwasher-safe, and BPA-free.
For reference and comparison:
- Our bottles are highly engineered with an insulated, vacuum sealed thermo design which enables you to enjoy your drink at the perfect temperature,...

Camco Stainless Steel Tumblers with Removable Stems
Hate tumblers ’cause you love your stems? No problem!
These kitchen-grade (18/8) stainless steel tumblers from Camco come with removable stems. Use the stems if you want or don’t, but Camco provides the option here.
These 8 oz tumblers come as a set of two in a variety of colors (click the link to see other color options) and have leak-proof BPA-free lids.
These are hand-wash only and not microwave-safe.

Coleman Claret
This is the Coleman Claret, a 13 oz double-wall vacuum insulated tumbler also made with 18/8 kitchen-grade stainless steel.
These tumblers, available in several color choices, have a padded bottom to reduce the possibility of slippage (great for when your campsite, and therefore your camp table, isn’t all that level).
These are hand-wash only and do NOT have lids. (Didn’t mean to shout there but we want to make sure that if a lid is a feature you’d like, you’re aware that these tumblers don’t have lids. But they’re popular with the no-lid crowd!)
- 18/8 vacuum insulated stainless steel construction
- No sweat design keeps ice cold for up to 6 hours
HOST Cooling Cup Set
These tumblers are also very popular with Amazon shoppers. This is a package of four 8.5-oz tumblers in assorted colors.
HOST tumblers have insulating walls filled with “freezing gel”. The idea is that you’ll pre-chill them in the freezer before using, and the gel will cool sufficiently to chill your beverage until the gel unfreezes.
They’re made of BPA-free plastic and have an insulated band for holding the tumbler comfortably even when frozen.
The manufacturer of these tumblers notes that white wines should be served at 43 to 53 degrees Fahrenheit, and red should be served at around 58 to 60 degrees, just cooler than room temperature.
They also note that their freezing gel brings the tumblers to ideal serving temperatures, though it’s a real head-scratcher to figure out how the gel knows if you’re going to be drinking red or white wine. ????????♂️????♂️
Hand-wash only.

They’re dishwasher-safe and are suitable for hot and cold drinks. The exterior remains condensation-free.
Reviewers overwhelmingly recommend this tumbler noting that it does keep beverages hot or cold and truly doesn’t leak even if tipped completely upside down (an important consideration for those of you with kids or active pets ????).
There are many reviewer notes stating that this is a very high-quality product. (Some also point out that it holds half a bottle of wine!)

It has a powder-coated finish and is BPA and lead-free.
In addition to the straw, each tumbler comes with a small cleaning brush.

Our favorite is from Toadfish.com - they are stainless vacuum insulated and have a removable glass insert so no metallic taste that some other tumblers tend to have. https://toadfish.com/collections/drinkware/products/non-tipping-wine-tumblers#

It about wine, I mean TIME. It's about time you. . . . that you got around to making this most useful post.
When we bought some stemless wine glasses, now known as wine tumblers, some years ago I never thought that they would become so useful. Good for you to tell your readers about a few choices available.
Did you take your YETI's with you to Europe? (Perhaps stuffed with a sock full of camera batteries to save space?)

We only used local glasses in Europe. Don't want to risk tainting the local wines. LOL
